Design

The LG GM310 is a sleek slider device. Measures at 104.7 x 51.9 x 13.9 mm, the phone is seem a little bit bigger than we thought. However, it is still feel comfortable in hand. The sliding mechanic also very smooth, a little push by the thumbs on the edge of the bottom will enough to unveiled the keypad out. The front panel house the 2.2 inches TFT display. Quality is acceptable for a mid-range screen. The under the display you will see the unique touch-sensitive navigation panel. Unlike other handset, this navigate panel actually is a set of music control keys as well as the regular soft keys like End, Back,Cancel and menu. At the right side of the phone, you will see the music and camera dedicated key lied. Also, as a dedicated mucis device, the phone has a 3.5mm Audio Output Jack at the top of the left side, over the volume keys.

Music

Music capabilities is all the LG GM310 promise to provide. It come with a very cool music player. Besides the basic sorting tracks and random playing features, the player also have a special feature called Music Tea where to suit your state of mind with the songs in the phone. When press in to
the Music Tea features, you will see nine different ‘flavor’ of ‘Tea Bags’ which indicate the style of your songs such as Deep, Refresh, Holy, Classical and etc of ‘flavor’. Frankly, it is only a fancy way to create a Playlist. There is also a feature like Mix & Match for you to play your songs according to your mood. Unfortunately, this feature only is inconvenient, because songs selection have to controlled through computer.

LG GM310 also applying the Dolby Mobile Dolby Mobile Sound and new High-end LG Sound engine technology. It is an integrated audio technologies that elevates the mobile entertainment experience. Therefor the audio quality of GM310 is decent. You can even have even more good audio quality if you have your headset on, the bass is stronger.

If you use LG GM310 for only listen to
the music, than you can continue non-stop listening up to 60 hours of music with the batteries fully charged. This is brilliant because not most of
the music phone cannot do that. However, the 512 MB of internal memory is not enough for most of
the music lovers so the microSD card up to 32 GB is allowed to insert to this phone.

Other Features

The handset also spot a 3.12 MP camera with autofocus. The quality is quite good actually, and enough for most of the users. Don’t forget that the handset also support HSDPA 3G network, so surfing the internet would be no problem. But there is no videocall camera for you to face-to-face chatting with your friends.

Conclusion

It is all about
the music capabilities in LG GM310. It is true that it is a strong music phone but apart of that, you will founds other features in GM310 is quite basic. If listening music is all you needed, then this GM310 is worth to take a look.

The Sony Ericsson W508 walks and talks midrange though by no means does it keep a low profile. What we have here is the full Walkman package at a bargain price and the rest of the W508 specs may as well be irrelevant if music is the first thing on your list.

A true Walkman at heart, the W508 takes after the Sony Ericsson W980 in many ways and even adds a dash of color to the Walkman experience – in fact, the StyleUp covers make it a regular chameleon.

There are eight StyleUp covers to choose from and the W508 always ships with a spare one in the box. And in case you wonder what’s with all those paintjobs, let’s not forget the W508 is in a twin predicament and has an identity to assert against the T707. That one we just reviewed, so we’re sort of in for a sequel, though in Walkman flavor this time.

The Sony Ericsson W508 is a friendly phone that has many ways to interact with you – TrackID to find the track you’ve just overheard at the caf?, SensMe so you can pick songs based on your mood, Shake control to change tracks at the flick of the wrist plus touch-sensitive music buttons and even Gesture control to mute calls with a wave of your hand.

The proprietary audio jack and the single, lonely loudspeaker are points against W508 but support for 16 GB M2 cards and FM radio with RDS are guaranteed to keep you rocking from dusk till dawn.

3G goodies like video calls and HSDPA for high-speed browsing are here, complemented with the nice web browser. The lack of document viewer is a bit of a letdown but not really a feature a Walkman can’t do without.

So without further ado, the Sony Ericsson W508 is in for a proper hardware inspection. Join us on the next page, as we go through our checklist

It looks like the kind of gadget that is always on the other side of the store window or in the hands of someone demonstrating a prototype that never sees the light of day. But the LG BL40 New Chocolate is quite real and it’s here to stay and fight for market success – in fact LG announced today the New Chocolate will hit the European market in mid-September this year.

The unorthodox long shape definitely sets it apart and the glossy black plastic with careful touches of silver trim easily remind of the times we first saw the LG Chocolate in flesh. The LG BL40 New Chocolate is immensely sleek and the 4-inch screen with 21:9 aspect ratio easily makes it one of the most unusual mobile phones that have set foot in our office this year.

Unlike some other fashionable handsets out there, the LG BL40 New Chocolate beauty is not skin deep – the hardware has all the bells and whistles a modern high-end gadget should have. And though technically not a smartphone, the BL40 New Chocolate S-class user interface offers convenient multitasking and is polished to match the sleek exterior.

With a brilliant screen with aspect ratio shared only with cinema screens and a few home cinema oriented TVs you can be sure the LG BL40 New Chocolate is a star. It certainly is no introvert – with TV out and DivX/XviD support, along with Dolby mobile plus an FM transmitter, we guess you can say that the LG BL40 New Chocolate broadcasts on all frequencies.

The camera and connectivity prowess of the phone do great job of covering all the advanced features found on phones today. So, it’s got the looks and it’s got the brains. Will its extravagance make it a hit or an oddity?

After the jump, you can see the LG BL40 New Chocolate do a 360-degree spin for you while we take a closer look at its hardware. Just keep in mind it’s an early version we’re working with and some design elements might go through changes before the handset hits the market.

Design:

The appearance of the S740 is in unison with HTC’s new design language , with a flat front and a diamond-like back. Unfortunately, the smooth and shiny surfaces are a real fingerprint magnet and we have the feeling that even thinking about the S740 is going to cause more fingerprints on it. When closed, it looks very much like an ordinary phone; however, its dimensions are rather interesting. First, we have to note that it’s longer than the Touch HD- no kidding- but on the other hand its width is completely normal, which makes it look even longer. This obviously isn’t the smallest HTC QWERTY smartphone, but at least it isn’t too thick at 16.3 mm, making it easy to fit in a pocket. Keep in mind that it weighs 4.94 oz (140 grams), so it’s definitely going to keep you aware of its presence with every step.

Similarly to the S710 and the S730, it has a 2.4-inch display with QVGA resolution. The colors are bright and saturated, and another good thing is that they stay the same even when exposed to the sun. Below it, you’ll find the round D-pad, which blinks in white when you have a missed call or a new message. The send and end keys are situated around it. They are small, but are protruding enough so you won’t have any trouble pressing them. The functional keys, home and back are also there.

As we’ve mentioned, the phone is rather long, but the screen isn’t large. The numeric keypad has benefited the most from this, and as a result its keys are big and handy. This is all okay, but the main feature of the S740 isn’t the numeric keyboard, it’s the QWERTY one. As you slide it open, the screen turns to landscape view. Unlike the S730, this one has four rows of keys so that every key is exactly where you’d expect it to be. This shortens the time that you’d need to get used to it considerably. It didn’t take long before we started to rapidly type messages one after another.

Let’s see what other buttons are waiting to be pressed. Well, to be honest, there aren’t many. On the left is the volume rocker, on the right is the camera shutter and on the top is the power button. The last one is almost unnoticeable by touch, but we didn’t experience any problems when pressing it.

The location of the SIM and microSD cards has stayed the same as in its predecessors. It isn’t behind the back panel as in most of the phones, but under the numeric keypad. In order to get to it you’ll have to open the slider and then the small cover in the bottom part. As you’re doing it the phone automatically turns off, which means that you won’t be able to hot-swap memory cards.
